Jaromír Hanzlík needs no introduction to theater, film, or television audiences. Since 1966, when he appeared at the Prague Vinohrady Theater as Troilus in Shakespeare's tragedy Troilus and Cressida at the age of eighteen, he has worked on this stage for thirty-three years, creating countless roles in both classical and contemporary dramatic repertoire. His talent was innate, his grandfather was a military musician, his father František Hanzlík was an actor and cabaret artist who also appeared in several films.

Jaromír Hanzlík first stood in front of the camera at the age of seven, in 1955, in the film Hastrman based on one of Jan Neruda's Malostranské povídy; he played one of the boys who mock Mr. Rybář, nicknamed "Hastrman". Decades later, he appeared in two now-forgotten films by director Pavel Juráček. In the poetic Romance pro křídlovku, a film based on a poem by František Hrubín and directed by Otakar Vávra from 1966, it was already clear that Czech cinema had acquired a new face. Also from the same year is the film story from the end of World War II, A Coach to Vienna, directed by Karel Kachyna, in which Jaromír Hanzlík played the role of a German soldier. The frequency of film roles increased in the following years, he embodied both serious and comedic characters. Filmgoers will not forget the romantic comedy Summer with a Cowboy, in which he starred (as on many other occasions) with Daniela Kolářová, the films based on the stories of Bohumil Hrabal directed by Jiří Menzel, The Snow Maiden and The Snow Maiden, the film fantasy with a historical background The Delights of the Fatherland, in which he played the young Charles IV, and the musical film A Night at Karlštejn, in which he played the role of Pešek. Television viewers remember the series Sons and Daughters of Jakub the Glassman, or Cirkus Humberto based on the novel by Eduard Bass, and other television series.

In the seventies and eighties, Jaromír Hanzlík was one of the most popular actors. After finishing his work in the theater in 1996, he lived in Switzerland. He presented the memorial program "Smiles" on Czechoslovak Television, and the documents about him are collected in the publication Album úsměvů (2002). He will certainly remember his acting life with a smile this time too.
