Harpist Kateřina Englichová and oboist Vilém Veverka performed together for the first time back in 2005, the sweet tone of the oboe and the delicate tones of the harp combining to perfection. In addition to their own solo work, both artists have built up a comprehensive common repertoire together, releasing the album "Impressions" (Supraphon) in 2017, featuring pieces by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Luboš Sluka.
Vilém Veverka (born 1978) is a leading performer with the oboe. He followed his studies at the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts by taking master classes with German oboist Dominik Wollenweber in Berlin. In 2003, he won the Sony Music Foundation competition in Tokyo and began his solo career, working in chamber ensembles and collaborating with Czech and foreign orchestras. His repertoire includes works of all styles, including a number of compositions from the second half of the 20th century (Bohuslav Martinů, Marek Kopelent, Luciano Berio, Morton Feldman, Isang Yun, Bernd Alois Zimmermann, etc.), some of which he premiered in the Czech Republic. He founded Ensemble Berlin Prag with members of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2011 and together they recorded Jan Dismas Zelenka’s Trio Sonatas, produced the first complete Czech recording of Twelve Fantasies for Solo Oboe by Georg Philippe Telemann, and a solo album featuring the concerts of J. S. Bach, A. Vivaldi and G. P. Telemann.
Vilém Veverka is the first oboist in “PhilHarmonia Octet” and the ambassador of French company “Buffet-Crampon”. He was also “Artist in Residence” at the prominent “Mitte Europa” festival in Germany in 2014.
Kateřina Englichová studied at the Prague Conservatory, continuing at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia with a Fulbright scholarship and at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin. She works with prominent Czech and foreign artists and ensembles and has taken part in a great many domestic and international festivals. She taught master classes in the USA (Juilliard School of Music, Curtis Institute of Music), Canada, Hong Kong, Italy and Luxembourg and has participated in more than 30 CD recordings – for Supraphon, Harmonia Mundi, New World Record USA, Exton Japan, etc. In addition to her harp repertoire of music composed in the past, she also devotes her time to contemporary music, and a number of composers have written pieces specifically for her (Sylvie Bodorová, Jiří Gemrot, Zdeněk Lukáš, Jan F. Fischer, Karel Janovický, Jindřich Feld, Luboš Sluka etc.). She has won first prize at many international competitions and herself sits as a member of competition panels.
